Agriculture is Not Just Another Line of Business.

Agriculture is one of the most layered risk environments in South African insurance. A single farm operation can carry vehicles and implements, irrigation infrastructure, precision technology, pedigreed livestock, accommodation facilities and multi-stream business interruption exposure, all under one policy.

These are not small risks. Agri policies often carry significant premium value, which means the administrative accuracy, audit integrity and workflow precision behind every policy matters even more.

The product is multi-sectioned by nature. The risk changes with the season. And the people administering it need a system that carries that complexity without slowing them down or creating room for error.

Why Agri Feels Different Inside a System

Most commercial lines have a relatively predictable structure. Agri doesn’t.

A single Agri policy can cross the boundaries of personal, commercial and agricultural cover simultaneously. Underwriting rules need to reflect seasonal exposure patterns. Claims can involve livestock mortality, machinery breakdown and multi-part weather events all at once. Endorsements need to be precise. And the audit trail behind every decision needs to be clean and complete.

That calls for a policy administration platform that treats Agri as a first-class product category. Not a series of workarounds bolted onto a commercial lines framework.

What TIAL Connect Does With That Complexity

Our role is straightforward. Make the Agri product your team places and administers work cleanly in daily operations.

TIAL Connect supports Agri insurance through:

  • Multi-section policy capability, allowing personal, commercial and agricultural sections to exist together within a single policy structure exactly as the product was designed.
  • Detailed asset categorisation for irrigation equipment, centre pivots, precision technology and stud animals, so each asset sits in the correct place with the correct rules applied.
  • Embedded underwriting rules are configured to product specifications, so the intent of the product becomes the behaviour of the workflow.
  • Claims built for complexity, supporting livestock mortality, machinery breakdown and multi-part events inside structured, auditable processes.

A single record of truth, so policy-level data flows through to billing, statements and payment outputs cleanly with date and time-stamped audit trails throughout.

How Products are Built and Maintained with TIAL Connect

This is where it is worth understanding how the process works, because it speaks directly to the integrity of every product available on the platform:

TIAL Connect supports two types of Agri product builds:

  • Insurer-approved product builds

When an insurer makes its product available through TIAL Connect, the product is built according to the insurer’s own specifications. When product updates are required, the process is structured and accountable. The client receives updated specifications from the insurer and instructs TIAL to implement the required changes. TIAL builds the update to specifications. The client environment is reviewed and approved before client deployment.

Every product available on the platform carries insurer approval. Nothing is deployed that has not been signed off on by the product owner.

Brokers and UMAs who hold a binder agreement with a participating insurer can place and manage business on that product through TIAL Connect.

  • Bespoke Product Builds

Where a client requires a product configuration that falls outside standard availability, TIAL works to a detailed specification to build a solution designed exclusively for that client’s environment and agreement. These bespoke builds follow the same structured, sign-off-driven process and are not made available to other users of the platform.

What This Means for Brokers and Underwriters

When the system understands the product, the daily experience of working with it changes meaningfully.

Policy setup becomes more straightforward because asset classes, sections and conditions are captured in the right place from the start. Claims have structure and audibility because the rules and evidence requirements live inside the workflow. Portfolio data feeds billing and financial outputs cleanly, because a single record of truth removes the need for manual reconciliation.

When product updates come through, the structured build and sign-off process means teams are always working on a version that meets current insurer requirements without carrying the administrative burden of managing that themselves.

When Your System Understands Agriculture

Agri products will keep evolving. New risks, new asset classes, new regulatory expectations. Our goal with TIAL Connect is consistent: make complex products straightforward to use, straightforward to manage and straightforward to trust.

When the system carries the complexity, your teams carry the client relationship. And that is where their expertise belongs.
